Why are you called Minotaur Arts?
What choices do I have?
The list is almost limitless as we capitalise on London and the UK’s
outstanding permanent collections and huge variety of exhibitions
in both public and private galleries. Minotaur Arts can arrange almost
anything you wish to see subject to permission and availability.
If you contact us, we can discuss specific options suitable for your
enquiry.
How much does an event or tour cost?
Again, this depends on each request. Costs vary according to such
factors as to whether you want private access to a collection or
exhibition ‘out of hours’ or whether you want to make
a visit during normal opening hours. Prices also depend upon the
size of group and the amount of time you desire for a talk. Other
options include arrangements for drinks and food and transport.
How many people can I bring?
The value of the experience offered by Minotaur Arts is intimacy
and a higher level of service provided by the lectures and tours
given by the major art galleries so the optimum number is 30 people
or less down to a couple of people. However, if you wish to bring
more than 30 people to an event, arrangements can be made to accommodate
you in more than one group. Numbers are ultimately determined by
the capacity of the venue you choose to visit, but we try to meet
all requests.
How long does an event or visit last?
The best time for the formal event is 90 minutes because individual
concentration begins to lag after that time especially in the evening
after a long working day. However, one afternoon or even a whole
day can be broken down into manageable slots.
How much knowledge of art do we need?
Our talks and events are aimed at the entire spectrum of knowledge
and interest. We aim to make art more approachable especially contemporary
art and open it up to new audiences. However, it’s preferable
to consult with you in advance in order to meet your expectations
and requirements.
Why should I employ you rather than take a
standard tour provided by a museum?
Most museums and galleries provide either free or private tours for
the general public. The standard of these talks can vary and they
are strictly governed by time limits. What we are trying to achieve
is to offer a service dedicated to personal attention and a standard
of excellence. Our intention is to deliver a memorable and unique
experience that takes an audience beyond the conventional experience
of art history.
Do you work outside London?
Although we are based in London, Britain’s rich artistic heritage
and tremendous depth of contemporary artistic practice grants us
many opportunities for events in regional museums and galleries.
Some options outside London include, to name just a few, Tate St.Ives, and
Liverpool, The Ashmolean, Goodwood Sculpture Park, The Fitzwilliam,
Kettle's Yard, The Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, The Baltic Exchange
on Tyneside, Manchester City Art Gallery, The Arnolfini in Bristol,
The Ikon Gallery in Birmingham and the Sainsbury Centre of Art in
Norwich. We can arrange an event anywhere in the country subject
to availability.
What times of the day or week can we use?
Times for an event or talk are entirely chosen by the client subject
to access and availability.
Do you provide catering?
Catering is always offered as a choice for clients and recommended
as a means of encouraging socialising and relaxation both before
and after an event.
Can you provide transport?
Our aim is to take care of the entire event according to your needs
so that you won’t need to organise anything.
Do you organise events in other areas of creativity
and culture outside the visual arts?
While we specialise in the visual arts, we are also developing events
in other areas of the arts and cultural life. Please ask for more
information.
Can I arrange a visit or event from abroad?
Naturally, you can contact us from abroad and we will take care of
all the arrangements for the event during your visit to London and
the UK. We are more than happy to meet special requests such as cultural
orientation, for example arranging introductions to special sites
of artistic and historical interest.
Do you have references or testimonials from
previous clients?
Please see testimonials from some of our satisfied clients.
Why are you called Minotaur Arts?
The company takes its name from the Ancient Greek myth of the Minotaur,
a creature with the head of a bull and the body of a man, who was
trapped inside the Labyrinth by King Minos of Crete. Theseus managed
to slaughter this ‘beast’ after finding his way into
the maze and his way out with the help of the king’s daughter,
Ariadne.
While it is commonly assumed to be a bleak and bloody tale, it acts
like many human myths as a universal metaphor. By conquering the
monster at the heart of the Labyrinth, Theseus represents the idea
of human struggle and achievement.
This myth has also had an influence on modern art. The Surrealist
group in Paris in the 1930s named their magazine after the story.
Picasso also identified his masculine predatory nature in the rather
tragic figure of the Minotaur, a man condemned to both resemble and
behave like a beast. The artist’s Vollard Suite humanises the
Minotaur while also depicting the animal drives in men.
Ultimately, by finding and confronting the monster in the Labyrinth,
Theseus embodies the importance of creativity in shaping the human
experience.
